Gentocin® Ophthalmic Solution

(gentamicin sulfate)

Gentamicin Sulfate Ophthalmic Solution is an antibiotic and is used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes. Gentamicin Sulfate Ophthalmic Solution may also be used for purposes other than those listed.

Gentamicin sulfate is a water soluble antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group active against a wide variety of pathogenic gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Gentocin Ophthalmic Solution is a sterile aqueous solution buffered to approximately pH 7 for use in the eye. Each mL contains gentamicin sulfate equivalent to 3 mg gentamicin 2.9 mg disodium phosphate 0.1 mg monosodium phosphate 7.4 mg sodium chloride and 0.1 mg benzalkonium chloride as preservative and purified water q.s.

Dogs and Cats

Indications: Gentocin Ophthalmic is indicated for the topical treatment of conjunctivitis caused by susceptible bacteria in dogs and cats.

Use as Directed by Your Veterinarian

Warnings:

An overdose of this medication is unlikely. If an overdose is suspected, seek emergency veterinary medical treatment. If the drops are ingested, give plenty of fluids and contact a veterinary emergency center for advice.

Do not touch the dropper opening to any surface including eyes or hands. This medication may cause blurred vision. Do not use other eye drops or medications during treatment with Gentamicin Sulfate Ophthalmic Solution unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian.

Side Effects:

erious side effects are not expected. Commonly, some eye burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, blurred vision, eyelid itching or swelling, or sensitivity to light may occur. Continue the medication and talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.
